It's quite likely a problem of my engine, not the Hiarcs 12 you may buy. Last time I tested it, it lost on time in a 20 minutes game, which is unnormal for a chess engine. I also have Hiarcs 12, but I find it worse than Hiarcs 11, so I don't even use it. Thesedays I usually let play Deep Shredder 11 on FICS, and of course it spend much more time in the first moves (not the very begining since I use an opening book) it thinks. When in endgame, if you use an endgame tablebase, then it will use it, so I guess it has an accurate judgment of the position without thinking that much. If they enter in a good middle/endgame, they won't have to spend so much time to keep the advantage they got in the opening/middle game. Generally engines will spend much more time for the first 8 moves or so, and then play faster. Lopium: I'm not sure about this, but maybe it's because it's the free version of Hiarcs. Red October: you could ask on the hiarcs forum Jun-29-08 If I give it an hour for forty moves, it seems to use 40 minutes for the first twenty moves (including however many are in its opening database), then ends up with 30 seconds or so per move as move 40 approaches. Jim Bartle: I downloaded the free version of Hiarcs the other day and find something odd. Open Defence: how does one perform analysis using the engine directly without the GUI I believe this is by typing commands through the ? Open Defence: any idea what platform HIARCS was running on at Paderborn ? are there any strength differences between the Mac and Windows versions ? Hiarcs drew Rybka, Cluster Toga (third place with 5.0/7), Spike and won all the other games. Karpova: Hiarcs won the 17th International Paderborn Computer Chess Championship with 5.5/7 ahead of Rybka (also 5.5/7 but a slightly worse Buchholz). Minasina: Wikipediassa Chess_engine_rating_lists. Maybee I will download some games as an example. I get very bored playing it as the games are always are very similar and I am going to load some more engines and try them. This is using the fruit engine that comes with it. In an open position where it can give itself chances on both sides of the board it kills me. James Bowman: I have Hiarcs running on my Dell Axim handheld, I have no Idea what playing strength it is, but it is very suseptable to attacks on the H file in a semi-closed position. i heard about 'agressive' mode, how is it activated?Īlbertan: Hi Loisp to activate "aggressive" mode in Hiarcs 9, first click on the engine menu, then click on "change main engine" then click on "engine parameters" and go into the "playing style window" and change it to "aggressive" if it is not already set there. Loisp: hiarcs 9 cannot find the classic sac Bxh7 after 1. IWaNnAbAgM: Alright,so when do you wanna start?įevered cheek: let's start now, i have about an hour before i have to go IWaNnAbAgM: So where should we finish the game?įevered cheek: i have a friend with a premium membership, he'll let us use his forum.
